Excited to be part of this great announcement and project for our region! The Peoria-Chicago Passenger Rail Project was selected by the Federal Railroad Administration for its new Corridor Identification Designation. This designation is critical to the development of passenger rail from Peoria to Chicago. The project is receiving $500,000 to determine engineering and cost requirements. The rail line runs from Peoria through La-Salle/Peru, Utica, Ottawa, Morris, Joliet, and ending in Union Station. The Corridor ID program originated with the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill and out of the 69 rail corridors identified, 12 are in Illinois! Peoria Mayor Ali and former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood held a press conference today with Mayors and representatives and area leaders involved in the project.
